After over 8 years of service my old server had a fatal crash three days ago. The disk controller died and killed both disks (RAID1) in the process. Fortunately my backup strategy worked like a charm and I only lost about 6 hours of incoming email (so if you sent me a mail in the morning of Thu 4th December 2014: please try again).
Following an ancient tradition (of over 15 years) the new server is called phoenix.clifford.at, like the ones before it.
I have a backup of all data from the old machine, but I decided not to re-setup everything that ran on the old server. Especially I did not re-setup the shell logins I gave away over the course of the last 15 years. I also decided not to re-setup the services related to ROCK Linux. Please contact me if you had data on the old server that you want back or had a shell account that you were still using..
BTW: The backup solution I'm using is a simple shell script I wrote over 10 years ago and am using ever since. I've now put it on github, just in case anyone of you is interested:
